yellin joining us from dover. a pretty big upset, yes? >> reporter: huge, kyra. huge upset. christine o'donnell was far behind in the polls. had significantly less money and was being gunned for by national republicans and republicans in her own state who are running, running in a campaign essentially against her. she was up against the establishment supported candidate mike castle, nine-term congressman from this state. very well-known. but she surprised everyone and won last night. the big question now is can she go on and win in a general election? this is a state that's heavily democratic and there's news now, kyra, the national republicans have said essentially because they think she cannot win they're not going to pour money into her race. i got a chance to talk to her last night and asked her what she thinks of the fact that the national republicans won't support her. here's a bit of that interview. we've been told this evening gnat national republicans, party organization that often funds campaigns like yours is not going to fund yours and many national republicans said simply y

's primary results. zero be on your screen. joining us this morning from our news desk is steve peoples from "roll call." let us begin with the headline from the delaware newspaper, anti-establishment insurgency rocks of delaware. o'donnell in shocker. tea party-backed candidates funds. how would she be able to do it? guest: not surprised here. the tea party express came into town against the wishes of some people in washington. spent a lot of money. in a closed republican primary was able to make a difference and up said cassell. honestly hard to see this as anything but a nightmare scenario for the gop, at least in this delaware race. you heard karl rove right off the race and both people on both sides are doing the same thing. host: people did not think she could win this primary, either. guest: two different races. winning a closed republican primary which -- i looked at the numbers, about 60,000 people voted, about one-tenth of all registered voters in delaware. about one third of registered republicans. a very small sample. you get enough of your friends and the excited base out, you c

screen, these were literally read to us by hand in the last 20 minutes or so with 100% of the precincts counted in the city state's attorney race. gregg bernstein has -- the incumbents, patricia jessamy -- leading to the margin at 1295 votes. that's slightly smaller than that was earlier in the day, but it gives the margin to the challenger, democrats gregg bernstein. this has been a long day of waiting for this final umbers, so what took so long? -- final numbers, so it took along. the night came and went with no clear winner. democrat gregg bernstein came out of nowhere to challenge the incumbent and went home before midnight clinging to a narrow lead. it widened to about 1400 votes by early morning but no one declared his victory or conceded defeat. the problem was the vote count stalled at 97% of the precincts. the other 3% or locally lost temporarily in transition. according to officials, judges neglected to turn in the memory cards from 82 voting machines after the polls closed. those machines were spread across 12 polling places from various parts of the city. o
